Technopalooza Topic Descriptions
Please read the description of the sessions offered at this years Technopalooza technology fair.
DocuSign- PowerForms for eSignature
DocuSign makes it very convenient for us to get signatures back quickly! When using PowerForms, you can create a DocuSign transaction without having to send the documents from your DocuSign account. You can link the PowerForm on your website, or distribute as a secured link through email. Signers can access and sign your forms on demand, making PowerForms a way to capture signatures and data from people whom you do not know ahead of time. Registration is required for this session.
DocuSign- AutoPlace for eSignature
In this hands-on learning lab, you will learn how to fully utilize AutoPlace fields functionality. AutoPlace is an advanced field option that automatically adds fields near each occurrence of a given string of text in a template or document. Registration is required for this session.
3D Printing
Do you have a design that needs to be printed for class? Or an idea you want to try out? UND has two types of 3D printers that students, faculty, and staff can access through UIT. In this presentation you will gain a better understanding of designs that can be printed, how they are printed, and what it takes to get your designs completed.
The Next Generation of Gaming is Here
Esports
Esports is a video gaming global industry that's blowing up. Esports is the world of competitive and organized video gaming. Students from different universities face off against each other in online and in-person competitions. We take pride in competing for and representing the University of North Dakota in the more forward-facing digital space. What to learn more about the esports world, come join us to see what esports is doing right here at UND.
Come Together
Teams
Easily communicate with your team with…Teams! Microsoft Teams takes all your communication and collaboration and packages them into one, easy to use product. Instantly go from a group chat to a video chat, keep all your notes, documents, and calendar in one place, or collaborate with coworkers on projects are just some features Teams offers. During this presentation, you will learn how to navigate the basics of Teams and find out how it can be a benefit to you and your department.
Take Flight
VR Flight Simulation
Have you ever wondered what its like to fly a plane? UND Aerospace uses VR flight simulators to provide its students the opportunity to practice in a realistic, immersive environment. An immersive virtual environment and 360° view, combined with realistic hands-on flight control hardware, create an engaging flight simulation experience that allows for training opportunities. Come try your hand flying in one of our simulators at Technopalooza!
Data Loss Prevention
Help keep yours and others private information private with the data loss prevention tool, Spirion. Spirion is a software that is available in the software center for UND faculty and staff to help users locate sensitive data that may not be easy to find such as Social Security and credit card numbers. Our goal is to reduce the risk of data compromises on the UND network and protect student and employee sensitive data stored in faculty and staff computers. During this presentation, our IT Security team will answer questions you may have and walk you through the process of running a scan.
LiquidFiles should be used anytime you need to transmit university private and restricted data (including personal information). LiquidFiles Secure file share is a secure way to send files that requires the sender to login with their NDUS.identifier credentials and also completed DUO authentication. LiquidFiles can be used in any browser, through the Outlook plugin on Windows computers, or using the LiquidFiles Agent app in your computer's applications.
Help is at Your Fingertips
Ticket Submission/Knowledge Base Navigation
UIT provides a robust selection of knowledge base articles to help users personally troubleshoot issues they may be having as well as provide step-by-step information on how to perform tasks. If the Knowledge Base articles do not provide the information needed, users can submit support tickets that get to the right person quickly to help cut down on wait times. During the presentation you will learn how to submit a support ticket and navigate the knowledge base.
I'm Not Falling for That
Cybersecurity (Phishing/Ransomware)
Don’t take the bait through a phishing or ransomware scam! UIT is continuously working to provide the university community with the most secure technology possible to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of critical information and computer resources. Learn more information on how to protect yourself online during the phishing/ransomware discussion.
Machine Learning with High Performance Computing
Deep learning neural networks are often used to categorize data. However, this type of machine learning requires a long period of training before the network can be useful. Attend this workshop to see how to train neural networks more quickly using UND’s high performance computing system.
Next Stop, Hollywood
VR Motion Capture Systems
Use state-of-the-art movie technologies to create animated movies or video game environments. The UND AI/VR Lab now offers a full-body motion capture system able to digitally collect the XYZ body movements of actors and translate them into data usable in movie animation and game development software. The XSENS Awinda is the same motion capture hardware used to animate character special affects in the Avenger movie series. Together with the Manus VR gloves, you can capture the almost any body movement data you need for your movie, game, or research project.
Permalink Library-Licensed Resources into Courses
Learn the benefits of, and how to properly configure, access to library-licensed resources. Different databases have different interfaces with some automatically inserting code for off-campus access and others not. Recognize when and how to add the additional code when needed to make sure your students have stable access to course materials.
Record, Edit, and Stream Like a Pro
YuJa
Many faculty members are already familiar with YuJa, but did you know that YuJa is an all-in-one service for recording, editing, storing, and streaming multi-formatted video and audio content across any device? YuJa also provides built-in automatic captioning and is integrated into all Blackboard courses. Using the YuJa streaming service improves the delivery and viewing of your video and audio content in your courses. Join us to find out how!
Scholarly Commons & Data Management
The UND Scholarly Commons is UND's institutional repository, a unified home for preserving and disseminating research conducted at UND. During this presentation we will discuss how the library can help you get your work on the repository whether it's articles, conference papers, datasets, or other artifacts of your research at UND.
Take Your Surveys to the Next Level
Qualtrics Advanced
Qualtrics is a robust tool that is easy to use for creating and deploying a variety of different projects. This session will cover some advanced tools and options in Qualtrics which includes Survey Flow, Pipe Texting, Email Triggers, and Quotas.
Tools to Thrive
Citrix
The Citrix Workspace at UND is a digital software platform that allows users to remotely access software programs from any device, as well as connect to the Engineering Lab virtual desktop to be able to run engineering software remotely. Topics covered during this presentation include: downloading and installing Citrix, logging into the Citrix Workspace, adding apps to the workspace, and more!
Treat Your Senses
Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is defined as artificial environment which is experienced through senses such as sights and sounds. UND has two brands of VR head sets and both allow the user to experience many different realities. During this demonstration you will be able to see examples of VR and all it entails.
Turbo Charge
Zoom
Zoom is a cloud-based videoconferencing and collaboration platform that, thanks to the pandemic, we are all very familiar with. With Zoom, you have the flexibility to create virtual classrooms and invite students to join from their desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Join this session to find out how to use Zoom to its full potential.
