Biography
Darren D. Schmidt is the Assistant Director for Energy, Oil & Gas at the EERC, where he leads a team focused on research, development, and commercialization related to efficient and clean fossil fuel production, carbon management, and renewable energy. Mr. Schmidt holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in mechanical and petroleum. Prior to his position at the EERC, he worked for Equinor in Williston Basin operations and research.
Mr. Schmidt’s principal areas of interest and expertise include oil and gas facilities, production, injection, well stimulation, enhanced recovery, power generation, and renewable technologies. Mr. Schmidt was appointed by Governor Doug Burgum to the North Dakota Oil and Gas Research Council. He serves as Cochair of the North Dakota Petroleum Council Technology Solutions Group and serves the Williston Basin Society of Petroleum Engineers. Mr. Schmidt has authored or coauthored over 80 peer-reviewed and other professional publications and has developed patents in gasification, and flare gas utilization.
