Faculty and Staff Headshots
A professional headshot is an important part of presenting yourself as a member of the University of North Dakota community. Our monthly Headshot Days provide faculty and staff with free, high-quality portraits for use on university websites, publications, business cards, presentations, and in professional organizations. Whether you're new to campus or updating an existing photo, we're here to help you look your best.
Headshot Day Logistics
Once per month, the Photo Studio in Skalicky 110 is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for headshot sessions. There is no cost and no appointment is required. The 8–9 a.m. hour tends to be our busiest; mid-morning and early afternoon typically have shorter wait times.
Appointments & Walk-Ins
Headshot Days are walk-in friendly, but a limited number of optional appointment slots are available for those with tighter schedules. Walk-ins are welcome anytime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Appointments reserve a 10-minute window for a more predictable arrival time. Both options offer the same experience and on-site image review. If appointment slots are full, walk-ins are always welcome.
How to Prepare
Arrive dressed and ready to be photographed. Solid, neutral, or deep colors tend to photograph well and keep the focus on your face. Avoid busy patterns, neon colors, or large text and logos — unless it's official UND apparel. Layers like jackets or cardigans can add polish and structure. Glasses are welcome; if glare is an issue, the photographer will work with you to minimize it.
A Get Ready Station is available on-site with blotting papers, lint rollers, grooming supplies, and other touch-up items. Before stepping in front of the camera, take a moment to check hair, collars, and accessories. The photographer will guide your posing throughout the session — just relax and let us do the rest.
What to Expect
Check in at the studio, make any last-minute adjustments, step onto the backdrop with guidance from the photographer, and review your images immediately on an iPad. If time allows, retakes can happen during the same session. Otherwise, you're welcome to return on any future Headshot Day. Most sessions take five to ten minutes.
After Your Session
You'll receive an emailed link to your photos approximately one week after your session. Your professional headshot will be uploaded to the UND Directory within approximately one month by student interns in Marketing & Communications.
Group Visits
Departments planning to attend with five or more people should email marketing@UND.edu in advance so we can prepare for your group. Very large departments may be scheduled for a dedicated session.
Students
Students, student employees, and alumni should contact UND Career Services for student-focused headshot options.
Accessibility & Accomodations
Marketing & Communications wants every member of the UND community to feel comfortable and confident during their headshot session. University-Wide Content Sharing Policy
The Division of Marketing & Communications shares content created by our office equally with all campus colleges, divisions, and departments. This policy allows our Division to use our resources to best serve the campus community and provide high-quality, comprehensive content. Marketing & Communications does not limit content to one area when it could be used to promote the university as a whole.
Everyone benefits from this policy. Sharing content across campus gives areas that don’t have access to content creators, such as photographers, videographers and writers, a range of content to use in their marketing materials and websites. It also enables Marketing & Communications to highlight many majors and programs in university-wide marketing campaigns.
Academic Photo Selection Process
UND photography marketing an academic program is selected from UND's photo archive. Using photos from the program is the preferred choice. If size or inventory limitations occur, Marketing will select a photo from outside the program. In these photos, individuals may not be students or faculty in the program; however, the photo selected will highlight a realistic learning environment, campus scene, or professional outcome a student of the program would experience
