Biography
Jacoba has a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of North Dakota with an emphasis on community mental health counseling. She is currently licensed in the state of North Dakota as a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC). Jacoba was born and raised in the Netherlands, where she lived during the first 32 years of her life before coming to the U.S.
Jacoba is caring and compassionate and uses a strengths-based and relational approach to foster purposeful personal growth and wellbeing. She provides emotional support and guidance to students facing challenges such as stress, depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship issues, trauma, and transitioning to the U.S. from other parts of the world.
Prior to entering her counseling career, Jacoba earned a Master of Science in Business Administration from the Radboud University in Nijmegen (The Netherlands). She has worked in higher education for the past 16 years as an instructor, academic advisor, and learning specialist assisting students of ages 18-68. She provided guidance in exploring majors, careers, developing effective study strategies, and developing life skills such as goal setting, managing time, organization, confidence building, and motivation. She has worked extensively with students experiencing symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, and dyslexia.
