Biography
As former Professor and Chair of the Department of Space Studies, University of North Dakota, James (Jim) Casler now serves as advisor to Space Studies graduate students. An engineer by training and profession, his past lectures were interdisciplinary, largely concerning management and risk, among other topics. After a career in the Marine Corps as an aviator, test pilot, instructor, and commander, he spent ten years in an engineering services firm as an engineer and manager. His doctoral work and subsequent research has dealt largely with the cognitive performance of the human in space, high reliability organizations, organizations for human space exploration, and planetary industrial operations.
