Biography
Jaryn L. Allen, Ph.D., LP (she/her/hers) joined the UND UCC in November 2023 after serving as the training director at another university counseling center and being on staff there for over 13 years. Jaryn has a passion for training and providing supervision to mental health clinicians and graduate students. She is very excited to coordinate the UND UCC APPIC Doctoral Psychology Internship Program in Health Service Psychology.
Jaryn is an alum of UND, having completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 2010. She completed her M.S. in Clinical Psychology at NDSU in 2007 and her B.S. degrees in Psychological Science and Sociology, with minors in Women’s Studies and Interpersonal Relations from Ball State University in Muncie, IN in 2004. She completed her doctoral psychology internship at the University of Manitoba Student Counselling and Career Centre in 2009-2010 where the mentorship she received there from her supervisors inspired her desire to become a training director.
Jaryn provides in-depth psychotherapy, with particular interest in helping students with identity, family, anxiety, sexuality, gender, ADHD, and/or interpersonal relationship concerns. She works within an integrative framework combining interpersonal psychotherapy with trauma-informed and culturally-sensitive practices, including techniques from CBT, Feminist Empowerment Therapy, EMDR, Somatic and Yoga/Body-Based Therapies, and Compassion-Focused Therapies. Jaryn focuses on the therapeutic relationship and modelling a culture of respect, genuineness, authenticity, collaboration, and safety. She tailors her treatment approach to the unique individual and his/her/their specific concerns and goals. She provides individual, couples, and group therapy as well as consultation, outreach, and trainings.
Outside of clinical practice, Jaryn enjoys yoga, diamond art, music and concerts, travel, documentaries, reading, and time with her partner and 3 dogs.
