John Shabb

Biography

John Shabb earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1984 at West Virginia University and completed postdoctoral training with Daryl Granner and Jackie Corbin at Vanderbilt University. He joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of North Dakota in 1992 where he studied cAMP signaling and protein kinase structure and function. In addition to his research activities, Dr. Shabb led a major statewide biomedical sciences infrastructure development project from 2000 to 2005. In 2005-2006 he completed a sabbatical at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the laboratory of Natalie Ahn, where he studied proteomics. He continued his proteomic studies at UND where he developed targeted proteomics applications for the quantification of metallothionein isoforms. Currently, Dr. Shabb uses evidence-based practices to teach biochemistry to undergraduates and medical students and serves in a leadership role for faculty oversight of the medical curriculum.
