Biography
Dr. Nicholas A. Azzolina is the Assistant Director for Applied Data Analytics at the EERC, where he manages technical staff and supports projects across the EERC’s Subsurface Group requiring machine learning, statistics, or data analytics expertise. Example research areas and projects include (i) carbon dioxide (CO2) management through carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS); (ii) oil and gas production from conventional and unconventional reservoirs; (iii) water resource options for the energy industry, (iv) risk assessments for CCUS and other subsurface projects, and (v) life cycle analyses (LCAs) for CCUS and other subsurface projects.
Dr. Azzolina is a hydrogeologist and statistician with over 25 years of industrial and consulting experience. He specializes in analyzing and modeling large, complex environmental data sets. He holds a B.A. in Geoscience from Princeton University, an M.S. in Hydrogeology from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Management and Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
Before joining the EERC, Dr. Azzolina was the Principal and Co-Founder of The CETER Group, Inc., a scientific consulting firm, where he worked with the EERC to support its Plains CO2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership.
