Biography
Dr. Pansegrau grew up in Grand Forks, graduating from Red River High School in 1977. He then attended the University of North Dakota (UND), majoring in chemistry. Dr. Pansegrau graduated from UND in 1981 with a B.S. in chemistry (ACS certified). He then pursued graduate studies at Colorado State University under the direction of Professor Albert I. Meyers, earning a Ph.D. in 1985. Dr. Pansegrau then completed post-Doctoral research with Professor Leo A. Paquette at Ohio State University.
Dr. Pansegrau then began an industrial career that spanned 30 years. He held both research and managerial positions at Monsanto Agricultural Company, Birstol-Myers Squibb Company, Dakota Gasification Company, the Energy & Environmental Research Center at UND, Lowham Walsh Environmental, Inc. Ecology and Envornment Inc., and Golder Associates Inc. He then began a pedagogical career at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota. After a period of time called "retirement", Dr. Pansegrau decided retirement was not for him, and he sought to rejoin the pedagogical endeavor. Dr. Pansegrau is very pleased to be a member of the Department of Chemistry at UND.
Dr. Pansegrau's research interests include analysis of complex interactions of biological systems that regulate organism health. Dr. Pansegrau pursues this area from the viewpoint of an industrial process chemist, examining the interactions that occur as a result of perturbation resulting in a disease state. Other research interest include catalysis, and organic synthesis.
In his spare time, Dr. Pansegrau cultivates wildflowers native to the western plains, enjoys the outdoors, especially fishing for walleyes.
