Biography
Dr. Saptashati “Tania” Biswas is a Research Chemist III at the EERC, where she works in collaboration with EERC subject matter experts, principal investigators, and leadership to conduct laboratory analyses and experiments and interpret laboratory data to support research activities related to energy production from coal and oil, recovery of rare-earth elements (REEs) and other critical minerals from domestic resources, and characterization of fluids related to oil production.
Dr. Biswas’s principal areas of interest and expertise include characterization of natural resources in the environment and novel method development using state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation. She serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management and is a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals. She has been a member of the Soil Science Society of America, Crop Science Society of America, American Society of Agronomy, American Water Resource Association, International Union of Soil Science, American Chemical Society, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, International Association of Great Lakes Research, and Society of Toxicology. Dr. Biswas has coauthored numerous peer-reviewed and other professional publications.
Dr. Biswas holds a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. Prior to that, she completed her M.Sc. in Environmental Chemistry and B.Sc. with Chemistry major, and minors in Physics, Mathematics, and Environmental Sciences from India. She was an Indo Swiss Bilatertal Research Fellow at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland.
Dr. Biswas completed her post-doctoral research experience at the National Center for Water Quality Research at Heidelberg University. Prior to her position at the EERC, she served as a Research Laboratory Manager at the Nebraska Water Center, University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
