Biography

DR. RUSSELL WILL REVIEW GRADUATE STUDENT APPLICATIONS DURING THE 2025-2026 ADMISSIONS CYCLE

Dr. Russell graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2013 with a BA in psychology and forensic science. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of North Dakota in 2019. Her mentor in graduate school was Dr. Alan King. Dr. Russell completed her predoctoral clinical internship training at Harvard Medical School & McLean Hospital’s Behavioral Health Partial Program. The Behavioral Health Partial Program treats people with serious mental illnesses utilizing individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and psychopharmacological interventions. Dr. Russell completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School & McLean Hospital’s Fernside Signature Recovery Program, which is a residential dual diagnosis treatment facility. At Fernside, she worked with patients suffering from substance misuse, personality, mood, anxiety, and affective disorders. Dr. Russell is a licensed clinical psychologist in North Dakota. She is also a member of UND's Behavioral Health Initiative.

Broadly, my research program focuses on violence perpetration risk, dimensional models of personality pathology, and LGBTQIA+ mental health. This includes specific lines of research involving:

  1. Externalizing behaviors, including substance misuse and violence perpetration in forensic and general clinical contexts
  2. Assessment and application of the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD)
  3. Forensic assessment of violence risk
  4. Juror perceptions of clinically relevant testimony
  5. Assessing mental health and treatment outcomes in LGBTQIA+ populations, including intimate partner violence and personality pathology in LGBTQIA+ people
