Biography

Dr. Tracy Evanson is a Professor at UND College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines. She began working at UND in 2003. She received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; an MSN in Community Health Nursing, with a concentration in vulnerable populations, from Seattle University; and a BSN from the University of North Dakota.  Her clinical background is in public health, and she is a certified advanced public health nurse.  Dr. Evanson is primarily a qualitative research, with expertise in descriptive phenomenology.  Her primary program of research is in the area of intimate partner violence (IPV). Dr. Evanson also has an extensive clinical background in (IPV), working with women and children victims in shelter, prison, and home settings.  In addition, she has designed IPV training curricula and delivered trainings to hundreds of health care providers. Dr. Evanson has served one term as Board Member and two terms as Vice President of the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women, International (NNVAWI), the primary international nursing organization dedicated to eliminating violence through advancing nursing education, practice, research, and public policy.  In 2016, Dr. Evanson received the Outstanding Researcher Award from NNVAWI. Additional research interests are in rural health and rural populations, describing and advancing the role of public health nursing, and use of various qualitative methodologies. She  teaches coursework in the PhD program, including several rural health focused courses as well as qualitative research methods; as well as Evidence Based Practice I and II courses in the DNP program. In her free time, Dr. Evanson enjoys travel, reading, and knitting. She has also been a foster for puppies through a local animal rescue since 2020.
