Biography
Dr. Xiaodong Hou is a current Research Associate Professor at the College of Engineering and Mines, University of North Dakota. He was born in Changde, Hunan province, China and received his PhD degree in polymer chemistry and physics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China in 2009. Dr. Hou serves as the technical group lead of battery research at the Institute for Energy Studies, College of Engineering and Mines at the University of North Dakota. His research areas are focused on the development of advanced clean energy technologies, particularly on addressing the challenges with Li-ion batteries from multiple perspectives, including the development of advanced materials, charging algorithms, innovative cell manufacturing, and thermal management. Dr. Hou is also interested in next-generation batteries (e.g., Li-S, Na-ion and solid-state batteries), CO2 capture, and green hydrogen technologies. As the principal investigator, he has been awarded research grants exceeding four million dollars from national, state, and private agencies. Dr. Hou is the author of over 40 peer-reviewed publications and holds 6 patents.
