University Council for Women+
Promoting equity for women+ at UND.
Looking to build more connections on campus ? The University Council for Women+ is a group where we advocate for women and marginalized genders, creating a safe space for open conversations and ensuring equal access to resources and opportunities. We strive for a campus where everyone feels respected and included.
Mission
The University Council for Women+ (UCW+) promotes equity for women and other people with traditionally marginalized gender identities (women+) whose primary affiliation with the University is as an employee or as a graduate student employee.
UCW+ will fulfill this mission by advising University leadership on issues impacting women+ and creating awareness of gender issues on campus. We will provide a safe space for women+ employees to discuss their experiences, concerns, and suggestions, seeking out and amplifying their voices. We will gather and use data, coordinating with University partners as needed, to create and sustain a healthy, respectful campus culture.
Vision
We will work towards increasing equity for women+ employees, thereby contributing to a campus where all people are respected, have equitable access to opportunities, and have pathways for self-advocacy.
Values
Equity
UCW+ is committed to advocating for equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized. Equity, as a value, requires UND’s policies, processes, and culture to be fair, impartial, and provide equality of opportunities. UND should remove unnecessary barriers that prevent people from fully participating in the UND community and provide a just distribution of work, reasonable accommodations, adjustments, and resources to enable all individuals a fair chance at success.
Mutual Respect
UCW+ is committed to embracing the strengths of others, building on what we share, and recognizing and valuing differences as opportunities to grow. We respect each individual's diverse needs, perspectives, and lived experiences and value their unique contributions to our community.
Inclusion
UCW+ embraces the importance of creating a welcoming and supportive environment where we collaborate with, listen to, and give value to all. We will advocate for high quality, culturally-appropriate, and fair efforts to improve equity and inclusion.
Access
UCW+ maintains that UND community members should have equal access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Equal access necessitates that all university employees should be informed of and have the option to participate in and benefit from programs and services, professional opportunities, technology, and facilities regardless of personal or social identities and circumstances.
Transparency
UCW+ holds that transparency is a key instrument in achieving equity, access, and inclusion. The rules of the game should be clear to all participants. Furthermore, UCW+ expects our leaders and UND’s leaders to be open to feedback and dialog.
Membership
Membership is open to all those whose primary affiliation with the University is as an employee or as a graduate student employee, regardless of gender or gender identity.
