Biography
Breann Lamborn M.P.A., Ed.D., is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, serves as the Pre-Professional Coordinator for the Wyoming satellite OTD program located in Casper, Wyoming and has been with the OT program in Wyoming for most of the 30 years of the program location in various professional capacities. Coming from a diverse educational background, with degrees in Humanities (Religion and Philosophy emphasis), Public Administration, and Educational Leadership, Breann teaches a wide variety of courses in the doctoral program, ranging from research to culture. Her professional areas of interest include social justice, cultural competence, access to healthcare for diverse populations, program development, organizational culture and ethics, policy, and advocacy.
Philosophy of Teaching and Learning
The basis of Breann's personal teaching philosophy is humanism, wherein students are encouraged to open themselves to change, growth and personal development for the purpose of engaging as an active participant for the benefit of society. Humanistic theory, influenced by early social psychologists like Maslow and Rogers, poses that humans are driven to grow and develop as learners across the length of their lifespan; reflective of the teaching and learning approach taken by the occupational therapy department, this theory is grounded largely in self-reflection and self-directed learning. As a faculty member, Breann serve as a cultural guide to the world of higher education and the development of students' professional identities as future healthcare providers. In this way, she guides students through self-reflection and personal and professional autonomy, toward adaptive responses that support occupational mastery in cultural competency, professional identity, ethical reasoning, leadership, and innovation.
