Biography
Denitsa Mavrova Heinrich is the Rodney & Betty Webb Associate Professor of Law and the Director of Trial Advocacy at the University of North Dakota School of Law. Her current courses include Evidence, Trial Advocacy, and Advanced Trial Advocacy. She also directs UND Law's internal trial competition, The Carrigan Cup, and coaches UND Law's National Trial Team.
Professor Mavrova Heinrich began her academic career as a Faculty Fellow at the University of North Dakota School of Law, teaching in the areas of legal writing, trial advocacy, and post-trial practice. She then taught Legal Research and Writing at Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Florida, before returning to UND in Fall 2016.
Professor Mavrova Heinrich received her B.A. in Political Science and English Literature, cum laude, from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She received her J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and Order of Barristers. While at law school, she served on the North Dakota Law Review Editorial Board, won the "Outstanding Student Case Comment" award for her publication on international treaty obligations, and served as a teaching assistant in both the Lawyering Skills and Academic Success programs.
After law school, Professor Mavrova Heinrich worked as a judicial law clerk to Justice Mary Muehlen Maring of the North Dakota Supreme Court. She then served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Kermit E. Bye of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. During her time at the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, she was also an adjunct faculty member for Concordia College's mock trial program.
Professor Mavrova Heinrich's scholarly interests focus on expert testimony, skills pedagogy, and the intersection of teaching and learning.
