Biography
Dr. HyeJin Tina Yeo is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education at the University of North Dakota. A critical race scholar, sociologist, and mixed-methodologist, she examines how institutions construct and mediate equity, access, and belonging for minoritized, marginalized, and international students. Her research investigates power dynamics, inequality, and data injustice across key areas of higher education, focusing on student development, social identity, microaggressions, and campus climate. Dr. Yeo developed International Student Critical Race Theory (IntlCrit) and leads research at the intersections of race, technology, and equity in higher education.
Before joining UND, Dr. Yeo served as Associate Director of the CIC Research Project at Momentum, where she led the design and implementation of longitudinal survey research and advanced critical, inclusive data practices. She earned her Ph.D. in the Sociology of Higher Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As a winner of the Outstanding Doctoral Student Medal, she also delivered the student address at the College of Education convocation in May 2021.
At UND, Dr. Yeo continues to advance equity-driven teaching, research, and mentorship through interdisciplinary collaboration, active community engagement, and hands-on research training that foster inclusion and bridge linguistic, cultural, racial, and ethnic differences. Outside academia, she enjoys documentaries, sports, tennis, and meditation.
