Courtney Ann LaFaive

Biography

Courtney Ann LaFaive is a writer, educator, and author of two books. Her latest book is Follow the Signs: Searching for Linda Goodman, America’s Forgotten Astrology Queen published by the University of Iowa Press in May 2026. In The New Yorker, Rachel Syme calls Follow the Signs a “pensive, often sublime book,” and Publishers Weekly says it “taps into the uncanny underside of storytelling.” She is also the author of the text/image chapbook Address Unknown published by New Letters in 2025 and Daughter in Retrograde published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 2018. Her essays have won prizes from the Bellingham Review, the Southern Indiana Review, and Crazyhorse and been listed as “notable” in the 2020, 2021, and 2023 Best American Essays series. Her work has garnered her a Fulbright Fellowship to Riga, Latvia, and support from the American-Scandinavian Foundation, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Image Text Workshop at Cornell University, Kunstnarhuset Messen (Ålvik, Norway), the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, USF Verftet (Bergen, Norway), and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. In addition to her work at UND, she is also a Teaching Artist wtih the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
