Biography
Dr. Jobayer Hossain joined the University of North Dakota in January 2026 as part of UND's National Security Initiative, advancing photonic integrated circuit (PIC) research with applications in defense, telecommunications, computing, and sensing systems. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Optics & Photonics from CREOL, the College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida, an M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Tennessee Tech University, and a B.Sc. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology.
Prior to academia, Dr. Hossain gained extensive industry experience as a Senior PIC Design Engineer at Phase Sensitive Innovations and a Silicon Photonics Engineer at AIM Photonics.
Dr. Hossain's work emphasizes the end-to-end development of photonic integrated circuits, including device and circuit-level design, layout, fabrication, and experimental characterization. His research interests include reconfigurable PICs, quantum PICs, optical interconnects, AI accelerators, photonic neuromorphic computing, and space and satellite technologies, with an emphasis on scalable, high-performance photonic systems.
