Mike’s professional journey reflects a steady progression of leadership within higher education, particularly here at UND. He currently serves as Director of Leadership Development, where he coordinates the 18:83 Speaker Series, the Poolman Leadership Academy, and other high-impact initiatives aligned with the UND LEADS Strategic Plan. He designed and implemented the Presidential Leadership Fellows program, overseeing the full selection and development process and administering more than $400,000 in annual scholarships to incoming students. He also develops and executes the UND Leadership Conference and partners with faculty, staff, and community experts to deliver specialized curricular and co-curricular leadership programs that strengthen engagement and belonging across campus.
Prior to his current role, Mike served as Coordinator of Leadership & Programming at UND from 2022 to 2025. In that capacity, he managed the development and execution of major campus programs and events, overseeing logistics, risk management, contract negotiation, budgeting, and assessment. He hired, trained, and supervised student programming staff, monitored the stewardship of student fee resources, and advised the Student Ambassador Program. He also helped coordinate large-scale initiatives such as UND Orientation Days, Welcome Weekend, and Sorority Recruitment, while launching new programs designed to enhance cultural engagement and belonging.
From 2017 to 2022, Mike served as Coordinator of Campus Recreation at UND, overseeing the intramural sports program, recreational esports, and the rock wall, and chaired the Safety Management Team. He implemented the university’s Recreational Esports program and designed a new Summer Camp focused on healthy gaming habits for middle and high school students.
Earlier in his career, Mike served as Assistant Coordinator for Intramurals and Club Sports at Carnegie Mellon University and as a Graduate Assistant at California University of Pennsylvania.
Mike holds a Master of Science in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Duquesne University. He is a Certified Student Affairs Educator and has served in multiple regional and national leadership roles, including as the NIRSA North Dakota State Representative and as a member of the UND Staff Senate, where he served as President and contributed to implementation of the UND LEADS Strategic Plan.
Mike is originally from the Pittsburgh area, so he is a huge Pittsburgh sports fan. In his free time, he loves playing hockey, biking, and gaming, especially the NHL series. He enjoys anime and Japanese culture as well, and has introduced a new sport, Vikingball, to UND.
