Biography

Dr. Bandel began working at UND in fall 2025. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree from Western Kentucky University. She began her doctoral training at the University of Southern Mississippi before moving to Rutgers University with her mentor. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine where she worked primarily in primary care psychology.

Dr. Bandel's clinical training has focused largely on evidence-based treatments (EBTs) with an emphasis on third wave modalities. Her clinical specialties include suicide risk assessment and management and psychodianogistic assessment.

Dr. Bandel's research focuses on improving firearm suicide prevention efforts by increasing our understanding of firearm owners and secure storage interventions. Her work seeks to increase our understanding of what makes secure storage interventions more/less effective. Much of Dr. Bandel's extant research has investigated the impact of broad/public health level approaches to secure firearm storage. Additionally, Dr. Bandel is interested in better understanding characteristics of those who choose to own firearms and how these characteristics may relate to secure storage beliefs and decisions.
