Tanzim Jim Hassan

Biography

Tanzim Jim Hassan is a Research Engineer at the UND Center for Cybersecurity Research (C2SR), he is also working on his PhD at UND in Electrical Engineering. He earned his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from UND in 2025 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering with a major in Avionics from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Bangladesh.

His research focuses on the application of machine learning and reinforcement learning to cyber-physical systems, with particular emphasis on autonomous UAV navigation and anomaly detection in distributed energy resources (DERs). He has authored one peer-reviewed journal article in IEEE Access and four peer-reviewed conference papers, all addressing real-world engineering challenges using intelligent systems.

Recent work includes the development of a multi-stage hybrid machine learning model for real-time anomaly detection in photovoltaic (PV) inverters, deployed on edge computing platforms. His research has been supported by several federally funded projects, including an FAA-funded initiative to collect electric and magnetic field data via UAVs for high-voltage transmission line inspection, and a DOE-funded project focused on strengthening the cybersecurity of DER systems.

Tanzim has received multiple recognitions for his contributions, including awards from IEEE NAPS 2023, IEEE PES T&D 2024, and IEEE CARS 2023. He has also been actively serving on the organizing committee of IEEE CARS since 2022.
