Odella Fuqua, a collaborative leader with over 30 years of strategic initiative and financial experience, is currently serving as UND’s interim associate vice president for finance.

Fuqua, a North Dakotan, was raised on a farm where she learned the value of a strong work ethic and finding solutions to challenging situations. After graduating from UND, she spent 10 years working in North Carolina, gaining valuable experience working as a private sector auditor specializing in college audits and at Duke University preparing monthly financial statements and implementing new systems.

Since returning to North Dakota, Fuqua has held financial leadership roles within the UND central finance unit and the Division of Continuing Education. During her continuing education tenure, she launched a range of student administration and financial report writing initiatives that led to a 120 percent growth in division revenue. Fuqua guided the creation and compilation of information to improve data reporting, and implemented technology solutions for finance, human resources, and administrative services. Within the central finance unit, Fuqua led the campus-wide implementation of the Model for Incentive-based Resource Allocation (MIRA). Fuqua and her team provide transparent, collaborative, strategic fiscal and operational guidance to UND leadership and business officers, driving institutional efforts to improve financial planning and decision making.

Fuqua’s passion is mentoring, guiding, and empowering staff to support them with reaching their professional endeavors. She believes in aligning human, financial and space resources to grow, meet challenges and accomplish goals. Fuqua has received numerous awards for meritorious service throughout her career, including UND Meritorious Service award, UND Robert O. and Marcia D. Kelly Collaboration Award and the North Dakota Library Association Benefactor of the Year award.

Fuqua graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Dakota. She also holds certified public accountant licenses in both North Dakota and North Carolina.
