According to State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) policy 918, alcoholic beverages are prohibited upon land or in buildings owned by the University of North Dakota.
However, SBHE 918 gives the president authority to approve exceptions to this policy. All exceptions are subject to applicable state and local laws and ordinances.
To seek an exception, complete a request using one of the online forms below at least three weeks prior to the event.
Sponsored Events/Single Event Exception
These exceptions are applicable for single events, in a specific location and on a specific date. To seek an exception, event sponsors must complete an alcohol exception form at least three weeks prior to the event. Submit a request to your respective vice president (e.g., academic affairs, finance and operations, health affairs, marketing and communications, student affairs and diversity, and research and economic development) or the president for units that report directly to that position.
Any non-UND sponsored event held on-campus where UND students may be the primary audience must receive endorsement from the vice president for student affairs and diversity (VPSAD). Review by the VPSAD is built into the approval process.
Annual Exception by Location
These exceptions are applicable to venues that are utilized for several events throughout the fiscal year. Annual venue exceptions may be requested at any time by completing an alcohol exception form; however, venues are strongly encouraged to submit the request prior to the start of each fiscal year. UND’s fiscal year runs July to June.
Venues with an annual exception must have event sponsors complete the individual events/activities exemption if there is a potential for undergraduate students to be the primary audience in attendance for an event/activity.
