Digital Signage
Share your message across campus.
Digital signs are displayed across campus in high-traffic areas and are designed to create quick awareness of events, services and campus information.
Content appears in a rotating slideshow, with each slide displayed for 6 to 10 seconds. Because of this, digital signage works best for simple, visual messages that direct viewers to learn more elsewhere.
Who Can Submit
Digital sign content must be sponsored by a recognized UND department, unit or student organization and may be submitted by UND staff, faculty or students on behalf of a recognized student organization.
The sponsoring department or organization must be clearly identified on the digital sign graphic.
Eligible Content
Digital signage is a good option for promoting broadly relevant information, such as:
- Campus events open to the UND community.
- Student services, resources and programs.
- Academic programs, majors or courses open to all students.
- Job opportunities, scholarships or surveys with broad eligibility.
- UND-affiliated or sponsored off-campus events
- Building maps, hours or directories.
What's Not Eligible
Digital signage is not effective for:
- Content intended for a limited or highly specific audience.
- Messages that require detailed explanations.
- Text-heavy designs or full event descriptions.
- Commercial advertising not connected to UND.
- Content without a clearly identified UND sponsor.
If your message requires more detail or context, consider using another communication channel.
Design Guidance
Digital signs are meant to be viewed quickly (6 to 10 seconds), often from a distance. Simple designs perform best.
We recommend you:
- Focus on one key message.
- Use minimal text.
- Include only essential details (who, what, when, where, how).
- Include a clear call to action (URL or QR code).
- Make sure text and images are easy to read at a distance.
Digital sign graphics should follow UND brand guidelines and accessibility standards. Avoid including detailed event information (such as full descriptions or long text blocks) directly on the sign.
Pre-Sized Templates
Digital signs are displayed across many screens on campus. To ensure your design displays properly, we recommend working with a graphic designer or downloading a pre-sized template.
File Requirements
If you would like your content to be displayed on all available digital signs, please submit both landscape and portrait design files.
- File type: JPG preferred (PDF also accepted).
- Landscape: 1920 x 1080 pixels (most common)
- Portrait: 1080 x 1920 pixels
If your file does not meet these design or file requirements, you may be asked to revise and resubmit.
Submit Your Signs
Submit your request using the Digital Sign Request Form at least 2 business days in advance of your desired start date. We recommend starting the design process early in case revisions are needed.
If your sign promotes an event or deadline, it must also be submitted to the UND Events Calendar before it can be displayed.
What to Expect After You Submit
After you submit your request, M&C reviews your content to ensure it aligns with University standards and policies. Content displayed is at the discretion of the Division of Marketing & Communications or the designated digital sign manager for a specific building.
Files must meet design and formatting requirements. M&C may request revisions to your files, adjust timing or decline submissions to maintain effectiveness of the digital signage channel.
For additional submission guidelines and requirements, refer to the Marketing Tools webpage.
Scheduling
- Once an approved file is submitted, allow 1-2 business days for your content to be added to the campus digital sign feed.
- Digital signs may run up for 16 weeks. After that time, content must be resubmitted to continue running.
