10 Ways to Avoid a Parking Citation
1. Purchase a Permit
All vehicles parked on campus must be associated to a valid campus permit. If you are a visitor to campus, please see “Visitor Information” regarding your parking options. If you will be parking on campus using an ADA (disabled) placard, you still need a permit.
2. Park Where Your Permit Allows
Be sure to park only in zones or spaces specified by your permit type.
3. Check Signs
Before parking your vehicle, check the parking signs. Each lot has signs that provide information on the type(s) of permit(s) that are authorized. In addition, individual spaces within the lots may be marked for a specific type of permit (Designated Reserve). These spaces may be used only by those displaying the corresponding permit.
4. Breaks Don't Change Rules
If UND is open, Parking Services will be operating. Break times, such as Christmas or Spring Break, will continue to have normal enforcement procedures. If any major changes are made, Parking Services will send out an announcement via the UND Notifications system, UND Weekly News Letter, and/or by posting on our social media accounts.
5. Park in Marked Spaces Only
Parking spaces are indicated by a line or markings on both sides of the space. Areas without such markings are not legal parking spaces. Please make sure you are parked completely within the lined space (no wheels on or over the lines). Vehicles not parked completely within the designated space may receive a parking citation.
6. Pay for Metered Spaces
Passport Parking and Metered zones must be paid and current in order for the vehicle to be legally parked.
7. Watch for Expired Parking Passport Sessions and Meters
Pay attention to your Passport session through the app; if your session has expired, you may be eligible to receive a citation. If the App is malfunctioning, please reach out to the UND Parking Services office for assistance. Similar rules apply when parking in metered spaces.
8. Disabled Parking Spaces
Parking in ADA spaces at UND requires that a current, valid UND permit is covering the vehicle. If an ADA placard or plate is not present on the vehicle, it may be issued a $100.00 citation.
9. Be Mindful of How You Park
Even if you have a permit or have paid for the location in which you have parked, you may receive a citation for improper parking. This includes parking over the lines, thus taking up multiple parking spots, or having your vehicle stick out too far into a roadway. Be mindful and considerate when you park your vehicle.
10. No Plate Present
If no permanent license plate is affixed to the vehicle, the last 8-digits of the ‘Vehicle Identification Number’ (VIN) are to be used instead. Under the option for ‘State, please select ‘Missing Plate’. Once you receive your official license plate and have placed it on your vehicle, please update your permit accordingly.
