Parking Permits
All vehicles and motorcycles that park on campus must have a permit and be registered with UND Parking Services.
Purchase Parking Permits
UND Parking Services provides parking permits for student and faculty/staff zones.
Permit Cost Breakdowns
A UND parking permit is the most economical choice when parking frequently on campus. Routine campus parking without a permit requires the purchase of a $7/day parking pass. Citations for parking on campus without a permit are $40+ per day.

Permit Required Zones
"A" Zones
“A” Administrative Faculty/Staff zones (red on the campus map) are designated for faculty and staff with an “A” permit.
"A/S" Zones
“A/S” Commuter zones (red) and (blue) are designated for students who have a “S” permit and for faculty and staff with an “A” permit. These zones are pink on the campus map.
"Resident Housing" Zones (“H”)
On-campus housing zones (green on the campus maps) are designated for on-campus living. Every residence hall complex has its own designated zone. For example, Prairie Rose is reserved for McVey, Brannon, Selke, and Noren residents. These permits are not interchangable. If you have a permit for Prairie Rose you can only park in Prairie Rose. Same goes for all the housing lots.
"APT" Zones (“HAPT”)
“APT” zones require an APT permit and are enforced 24/7. Maps for each individual apartment complex, detailing each space within each lot, can be found under the Apartment Housing Maps page. Non-UND individuals (must not be Student/Faculty/Staff or active permit holder) may use the 3-day visitor parking spaces.
"A/S/H/" Zones
“A/S/H” zones (brown on the campus map) are designated to those who have an “A”, “S”, or “H” permit (H-Housing not HAPT). These zones can be found primarily at the UND Wellness Center and UND Airport.
"Accessible (Handicap)" Zones
Accessible (Handicap) UND honors state-issued accessible permits for visitors, however, you must also have a UND permit to park in designated handicap spots on campus. Handicap zones can be found around campus in “A”, “S”, and “H” zones. Holding an active UND permit (excluding HOAPT) will allow you to use these spots on the UND campus.
"Reserved" Zones
Reserved zones (grey on the campus map) are appropriately marked by signs and enforced 24/7. You must have a special permit to park in these zones.
"Maintenance" Zones
Maintenance Vehicle zones (black on the campus map) are restricted 24/7 to use by University maintenance vehicles.
"Service Vehicle" Zones
Service Vehicle zones (black on the campus map) are designated for service vehicles and vendors that have the appropriate vendor permit. Service Vehicle zones are appropriately marked by signs and enforced 24/7.
Parking Enforcement
-
Vehicles without a UND permit are able to park on campus for a limited time via the Passport app; please see the “Passport Parking” section for more details on how to use the app. To see where these areas are located, please see the “Passport Parking Map”.
-
Permits are valid yearly from August 1 to July 31 of the following year. Permits are virtual and are associated to a license plate.
- A valid temporary pass must be displayed or a UND virtual permit associated to plate to avoid citations.
- If no permanent license plate is affixed to the vehicle, the last 8-digits of the ‘Vehicle Identification Number’ (VIN) are to be used instead. Under the option for ‘State, please select ‘Missing Plate’. Once you receive your official license plate and have placed it on your vehicle, please update your permit accordingly.
- Parking enforcement is conducted year-round.
- Open parking hours are Monday through Friday 4 p.m. to 7 a.m., and all day on Saturday and Sunday.
- Ralph Engelstad Arena events will be enforced and are an exception to the open parking hours.
- UND permit is not required, but parking in restricted zones will continue to be monitored/enforced 24/7 (e.g. housing zones, reserved, safety concerns, no overnight, time limit zones, Engelstad Arena events).
Parking Ramp
The use of UND's Parking Ramp requires pre-payment.
