Limited English Proficiency Plan
UND is dedicated to providing safe and non-discriminatory learning, living, and working environments for all members of the University community and visitors to campus. In accordance with our commitment to non-discrimination based on national origin as well as our obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and E.O. 13166, the University takes responsible steps to provide meaningful access to its programs and services to individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP).
LEP Resources
UND will provide all interpreters, translators, and other language assistance measures needed to provide meaningful access to LEP qualified participants without cost to the persons accessing services. If you are a person attempting to access a UND program or activity and require language assistance, please contact the Equal Opportunity & Title IX Office at 701.777.4171 or UND.EO.TitleIX@UND.edu.

Free On-line/Mobile Translators
These translation tools should be used only as a quick first step in translating simple sentences, words, and concepts. They are not reviewed by a speaker of the target language and may have errors.
- Google Translate
- Translates texts, images, documents and websites to over 80 languages, including those identified as the most commonly encountered languages on campus
- Microsoft Translator
- A translation app for Android and iOS that translates text and speech in over 40 lanugages, available through the microsoft apps store for mobile use
- Microsoft Suite
- The translate tool in the Review ribbon translates text within Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- The Present Live feature in PowerPoint for the web generates a QR code and link through which the audience can see the presentation on their devices and read live subtitles in their preferred lanugage.
- FreeTranslations.org
- Translates text to 12 languages and provides audio for translated phrases
Certified Translators
For situations requiring the use of a translator, please contact the Equal Opportunity & Title IX Office to procur a certified translator/interpretor. These services will be provided at no charge to your department.
Written Translations
Written translations of commonly used documents are available upon request. If you need one of these documents or would like to request a commonly used document from your office be proactively translated, please contact the Equal Opportunity & Title IX Office.
Discrimination and Harassment
Any LEP person who believes they have been denied meaningful access or have experienced discrimination or harassment may contact the Equal Opportunity & Title IX Office or make a report.
