Logo Usage Guidelines

The following guidelines govern the use of the logos and marks within the UND Logo System in all forms of print and digital communications.

Color Combinations

Preferred Full-Color Versions

Using the full-color version of a UND logo is always preferred. A reversed full-color option is available for dark backgrounds.

full color logotype

logotype full white

One-Color Version

When using one-color options, select the logo with the highest contrast against the background.

green logotype

black logotype

white logotype

Clear Zone and Size

For the greatest impact and readability, a minimum logo size has been established. The size of the primary UND logotype and the unit logos should not be less than 1.5 inches in length and proportions should not be altered.

All marks within the UND logo system must be surrounded by a clear zone. The clear zone should be no less than half the height of the flame logo. Do not print graphics, rules, typography or other elements in the clear zone.

The mascot and Athletics logos have unique clear zones. Please reference the Logo System page for more guidance.

Reproduction

The following reproduction guidelines apply to all logos and marks within the UND logo system:

  • Follow all Licensing and Sponsorship procedures.
  • Use only original artwork from downloads page for reproduction. If you cannot find a logo or mark, contact identity@UND.edu.
  • Add appropriate alternative text when a logo is used in a digital format. Alternative text should clearly state the logo type and area identified. Alternative text examples include:
    • UND primary logotype
    • UND vertical logotype
    • Department of English informal unit logo
    • College of Arts and Sciences primary unit logo

Partnership Layout

accelerate to industry and und logos example

UND commonly partners with external organizations. Visual representation of a partnership may be displayed in print and digital communications. The partner logo should not be given greater prominence than the UND logo and should be clearly separated from the UND logo using the proper clear zone.

Please contact Licensing regarding any sponsorship related to the Fighting Hawks name and logo.

Unacceptable Logos

Maintaining the integrity of the UND logo system is important. Logos and marks must be presented in a clear, consistent and effective manner.

The following guidelines apply to all logos and marks within the UND logo system:

  • Do not modify, crop or alter in any way.
  • Do not skew or distort.
  • Do not add patterns or alter logo colors.
  • Do not outline, emboss, blur, bevel or add other special effects.
  • Do not reduce the opacity or tint.
  • Do not cover or overlap with text or other graphic elements.
  • Do not rearrange or resize elements of the logo.
  • Do not add any additional design elements or text.
  • Do not change typefaces or character case.

Retired Logos

Over the years, a number of logos have been retired from the UND Logo System. Retired logos should not be used in any University communications. The logotypes, signatures and marks of the current system replace all other UND logos and marks. If you are unsure if a logo you want to use is retired, contact identity@UND.edu.
