UND Open Parking Rules
Open parking on campus is designed to make it easier for students, employees and visitors to access UND after regular hours. However, there are specific times, locations, and event-related exceptions that determine where and when you can park without a permit.

Event Exemption
During some events on campus, certain surface lots may not qualify for open parking. These areas may be converted to event pay-to-park lots or restricted to UND permit holders only, depending on the event location and time.
Event restrictions most commonly occur during men’s hockey games at Ralph Engelstad Arena, where surface lots near the arena (primarily between the English Coulee and Columbia Road, and from University Avenue north to Gateway Drive) may require event payment or a valid UND permit.
Always follow posted signs and the direction of parking attendants during special events. Vehicles parked in violation of event restrictions are subject to being cited.
Other Areas That Are Still Enforced
While most of the campus is open, there are still areas or events that may override the open parking rules. These include:
- On Campus Housing Lots
- Reserved Stalls
- Safety Concerns
- Timed parking stalls
